Welcome to The NSXperience.

The journey started with 4 chao recruits who met after POP in their new units, they had an urge to maximise admin time during their National Service journey. Oftentimes, card games would be brought out and played within the bunk, and it created many opportunities for bonding between bunkmates.

We wondered if there were any Army-themed card games that we could relate to; unfortunately, there didn’t seem to be any in the market. A crazy idea struck us one day, “Why not we just create our own one?”

And so The NSXperience was conceived to demystify Army culture in a fun, relatable, and exciting way that every Singaporean can enjoy.

We distilled all the iconic moments in BMT, the catchy lingo that was commonly used, as well as the punishments that were dealt to us. From there, we created a card game that captures the essence of National Service and all its highs and lows, inside jokes, references, and stereotypes.

In line with our effort of inclusivity, not only did we want army recruits to enjoy this product, we also wanted people who have not been in the army before to play and obtain a rare glimpse into army culture. We set out to bridge the NS experience gap between those who have been through the army and those who have not.

We believe NS is an experience that will impact every single person in Singapore, as we are all children, siblings and/or friends of someone who has been through NS. Through CHAO RECRUIT!, we wish to facilitate discussion, encourage bonding opportunities on the topic of NS between friends and within families.

Meet The Team

About The Artist

Romaine is a self-taught independent illustrator, going under the pseudonym “chinesemermaid”. Her love for art grew at a young age, with DC comics as her inspiration and an old Wacom tablet. Based in SG, she has previously created engaging work with social media companies such as Hello Mellows (NZ) and uses her illustrations to tell stories. Her latest work in CHAO RECRUIT! (2021) and other passion projects can be found on her Instagram.
